The New Year brings some exciting changes to Wistow Gallery! The lovely textile artist Bridget Hawkridge, will become the new owner of Wistow Gallery on 1 February 2014. Bridget will continue to showcase the work of our very talented artists and makers and will also be offering a new programme of workshops and exhibitions in an extended space at Wistow.
The gallery will be closed for a week or so at the end of January for refurbishment - we'll keep you posted...
The gallery will re-open after our Christmas and New Year break on Saturday 4th January at 10am.
We have a wonderful range of hand-made decorations and locally designed Christmas cards, plus a beautiful collection of craft and art from around 100 Leicestershire and Rutland artists and makers, with dozens of unusual gift ideas for under £20, and cards and stocking fillers from just £1.
The gallery will be open every day throughout December until we close for the holiday period at 1pm on Christmas Eve.
Join us for a glass of mulled wine and mince pie on Christmas Eve, 10am-1pm, to get you in the festive mood!

My Wistow Photo Competition
What do you love about Wistow? Do you come often or have you never been? Come this September and you can enter our brand new competition… Show us what Wistow means to you in a single snap shot taken between 1-29 September 2013, and you could win one of three great prizes, together worth £500!
Your photo can be any aspect of Wistow, from a big slice of cake in the café to the swans on the lake or your favourite dog walking spot. And you definitely don't need to be a professional photographer - we're looking for pictures that best capture the essence of Wistow, so snap a happy moment on your phone or spend hours with your long lens, we don't mind!
Simply email your photo to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop in a print of your photo to Wistow Gallery by 4pm on Sunday 29thSeptember 2013. Please ensure that you send the following details with your photo and put 'My Wistow Photo Competition' in the subject line of your email: Your name, age (if under 16), address, phone number and email address, plus the approx date and time your photo was taken, and its title (if you have given it one!).
A selection of the photos will be on display around the Rural Centre between 5-27 October 2013.
All entries must be your own work, taken with your own photographic device (any acceptable), at Wistow between 1-29 September 2013.
One entry only per person.
No minimum age for entries. All entries will be judged in one single category.
Entrants can be resident anywhere in the UK or overseas, as long as the photograph was taken at Wistow by themselves between 1-29 September 2013.
JPEG image files only please. We haven't specified a particular resolution for your photographs but please avoid very high resolutions that will crash our inbox or very low resolutions that will not print at a reasonable quality to at least 7x5" size. Files that cannot easily be accessed by the judging panel will be discounted.
Hard copy entries are also welcome - maximum print size A4 (21x30cm).
All entries must be received by Wistow Gallery by 4pm on Sunday 29thSeptember 2013. No entries received after this time for any reason will be considered.
Judging will take place between 30 September-3 October 2013 and winners will be notified by email (or by phone if no email available) by 5pm on Friday 4thOctober 2013. The judge's decision is final.
By entering your photograph into the competition the image becomes the property of Wistow Rural Centre and we assume your full permission for any/all of the businesses at Wistow Rural Centre to use/reproduce your image in any print or digital media for an unlimited period of time.
We will award three prizes - 1st, 2ndand 3rd- worth a total of around £500 in goods and vouchers from the retail outlets* at Wistow Rural Centre. Goods and vouchers cannot be exchanged. No cash alternatives.
If we are unable to contact the winners after reasonable attempts during a reasonable time period, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize(s).
If we receive fewer than 10 eligible entries by 4pm on Sunday 29 September 2013 we reserve the right to cancel the competition and not award all or any of the prizes.

Summer Collection: Birds of a Feather, Saturday 6 July-Monday 5 August 2013. Preview evening: Friday 5 July, 6-9pm. See and buy the work of over 30 local artists and makers who have flocked together for this beautiful bird-themed summer collection.
Wistow Maze (just opposite the Rural Centre) opens this year on Saturday 20th July and is open daily 10am-6pm until September. This year the 3 mile trail is in the shape of a boar, Richard III's emblem, with the quiz trail testing your knowledge of great British kings and queens!
Wistow Gallery is proud to support Kibfest: Kibworth's first family charity music festival, being held in memory of Adam Bennett who died last year. All funds raised will be split between Kibworth Primary School and Kibworth & Smeeton Juniors FC. The weather forecast looks good and the line up is electric!! Plus great food and drink, kids activities, open mic tent and shopping stalls. Tickets available from the gallery until Saturday morning, so grab yours now! Adults £8, children (3-14) £3, family (2 adults and up to three children) £20. Gate prices slightly higher. Sorry no dogs.

Children's Easter Hunt: Saturday 23 March - Sunday 7 April, daily 11am-4pm (11.30am on Sundays)
Find the Easter Bunny's clues around the Rural Centre to claim your Easter treat. Just 50p per entry for an hours family fun during the school holidays! Pick up your entry form from Outerspace (the shop next to the gallery).
Made With Love Collection: 1-20 February 2013 in the gallery. We're celebrating Valentine's Day with a beautiful collection of heart and love-themed work, including ceramics, glass, wood, prints, photography, jewellery and much more. Plus a range of unusual Valentine's Day cards and little love tokens and decorations, all created by Leicestershire and Rutland artists and designers.
Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 February 2013: Kids get crafty! Valentine-themed crafts for children with Wistow Gallery 11am-2pm on 13th and 14th Feb during the half term holidays (parent supervision and weather permitting, small charge applies). Plus the cafe will also be decorating cupcakes at the same time - all under the gazebo outside the cafe.

Made with Love Collection: Call for Work
From 1-20 February 2013 we'll be featuring a new collection 'Made with Love' - everything hearts and lovely for Valentines day and the month of love! If you are an artist/maker based in Leicestershire or Rutland - existing or new to Wistow Gallery! - and would like to submit work for the collection, please email details (pictures, dimensions, prices) to Kate at firstname.lastname@example.org by 20 January 2013. We're particularly looking for cards, love tokens, ceramics, textiles, small paintings, prints and other pictures, paper goods and wood.
New workshops with textile artist Bridget Hawkridge - a workshop voucher makes a great pressie!
Gain confidence with colour and composition and be inspired by Bridget's trademark bird and circle motifs to create your own framed picture.
Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th, Monday 28th or Tuesday 29th January at 10-12.30pm or 2-4.30pm each day. Workshop includes two hours tuition and making (four participants max), tea/coffee and home-made cakes and, of course, your framed picture to take home.

Christmas Shopping Evening at Wistow Rural Centre: Thursday 13 December, 5-8pm All the lovely shops, cafe, deli and garden centre will be open for food and drink, lots of Christmas gift ideas and some festive treats for children and grown ups!
Plus dozens of unique, hand-made gift ideas for under £25, and lots of decorations and stocking fillers for under £10. It really doesn't have to cost a lot to support independent retailers and local artists this Christmas!
In addition to our usual opening hours, we'll be open on Mondays in December, 11am - 4pm, so you can find the perfect pressie everyday at Wistow Gallery!

Christmas Collection Preview Evening: Thursday 8 November 2012, 6-9pm
Join us on the evening of Thursday 8 November to be amongst the first to see and buy from our very first Christmas collection. We'll have new work from popular existing artists and makers, and many brand new collections, plus a large range of hand-made decorations and unusual Christmas cards.
Wistow Gallery Christmas Collection 2012: Call for Work
We are now planning our very first Christmas collection and would love to hear from you if you have work that might be suitable. We're particularly looking for Christmas cards, wrap and decorations, paper craft/stationary, ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, textiles (excluding bags and clothing), prints and paintings. Family Sports Quiz Trail: Saturday 14-Sunday 22 July, 11am-4pm
Find the 15 olympic sports pictures around the rural centre, name the sport on each one, and when you have them all you can claim your prize! Start and finish at the gallery. Just 50p per entry and all funds raised will go to the fab Menphys Centre for disabled children in south Leicestershire. You'll need something to write with so bring a pen or you can buy a pencil from the gallery for 20p!
Wistow Maze: Now opening Saturday 21 July
On Saturday 21 July the Wistow Maize Maze opens for the summer, this year in the shape of a relay runner (of course!). Open every day until September - fun for all ages!
Opening this year is slightly later than usual due to the exceptionally wet weather - fingers crossed for a dry summer holidays!
Celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at Wistow! All the shops, garden centre and cafe will be open throughout the weekend and Wistow Gallery will have a small but unusual selection of unique jubilee-themed souvenirs! Plus...
Half-term treasure hunt for all the family!
Saturday 2nd - Sunday 10th June, 11am-4pm daily
Throughout the jubilee weekend and the half term break, you'll find a jubilee-themed treasure hunt at Wistow Rural Centre - a great way to pass an hour or two, rain or shine!
Follow the clues around the centre, visiting the shops, café, garden centre and model village along the way, to find the code that will lead you to the treasure…
The treasure hunt is just 50p per entry, with a prize if you find all the clues, and all the money raised will go to the wonderful Menphys Centre in Wigston, the pre-school nursery supporting disabled children and their families in south Leicestershire.
Don't forget Father's Day on Sunday 17 June - find a unique gift for your one-of-a-kind Dad! New Father's Day cards now in, plus a wide range of gift ideas for chaps - sports, bike and car prints, wood, ceramics, cufflinks, Kindle cases, cushions, paintings, Leicestershire photographs and more.
18-24 June 2012 is National Picnic Week so why not pack up your blanket and butties and head on out to Wistow? Lots of lovely picnic spots, the cows in the next door field are very happy to share!
On 23 May, the very talented Jane French spent the day painting in the sunshine at Wistow. I love the results - Jane really captures the essence of the estate, which looks particularly beautiful with the rapeseed fields in full bloom this month.

Wistow Gallery's doors open for the very first time at 10am on Tuesday 27 March 2012... our first week in the sunshine has been fantastic, thank you to all the first customers this week, so glad you're liking the gallery!
Our launch evening on Thursday 29 March was a huge success - thank you so much to everyone - friends, family, artists, media and more - who came along! Particular thanks so Sarah Poli of Firenze and Boboli restaurants in Kibworth for the wonderful fizz and nibbles and to Emily of Hi Cupcake for all the beautiful cakes she sent over for us.
